Washington, DC resident Marcus Roberson, 32, was killed by a teenager after being stabbed shortly before 10 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 29, when a 17-year-old intervened during a reported assault of his mother, a spokesperson for the Fairfax County Police Department said.
Police say that on Sunday night, officers from the Fairfax County Police Department were called to the 7900 block of Janna Lee Avenue when the teen called the agency to advise that his mother was being assaulted by her boyfriend.
Upon arrival, officers found Roberson suffering from stab wounds to his upper body. He was rushed to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
According to investigators from the Fairfax Police Department, Roberson was visiting the Janna Lee Avenue home on Sunday night when a verbal argument broke out between the two parties that rapidly escalated into a full-blown assault.
The teen reported that he stabbed Roberson to stop the assault, which played out in front of three other children, who were unharmed. The woman was treated at the scene for non-life-threatening injuries.
On Sunday night, after interviewing the teen involved in the altercation, he was released to his mother and has not been charged.
Now, detectives are investigating the possibility that this incident was a “justifiable homicide.”
Officials say that detectives will be consulting with the Office of the Fairfax Commonwealth’s Attorney to determine if charges will be filed at a later date. Until then, the teen remains released to the custody of his mother.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will now conduct an autopsy on Roberson to determine his exact cause of death
